C.C.A.R.E.S. VOLUNTEERS
(VOLUNTEERS PROVIDE)

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Live in catchment area -Resident of the Counties of Lennox & Addington, Prince Edward, and Hastings.

  • Be 19 years of age or older

  • Demonstrated strong communication skills, especially in the area of empathic listening

  •  Demonstrated ability to cope under duress in crisis situations

  •  Ability to respect confidentiality

  •  Excellent knowledge of community social service network and resources

  •  Ability to meet time commitment of ongoing bi-monthly meetings

  •  Demonstrated reliability in responding to scheduled shifts

  •  Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team

  •  Possess a valid driver's licence, auto insurance (minimum of $1,000,000 liability)

  •   Submit to and pass annual security clearance procedures by police (CPIC check)

  •  Ability to take directions from Team Leaders and Staff

  •  Act as ambassadors of the service and as such conduct yourself in a professional, dignified and courteous manner at all times, preserving the integrity of the service.

 

DIRECT SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES

1.

Submit a monthly schedule of dates and times available for being on call.

2.

Pick-up or arrange to receive (by fax or email), the monthly volunteer schedule and other relevant materials.  

3.

If issued a pager ensure it is in good working condition and is on your person for every scheduled shift. Report any defects to the Coordinator.

4.

Respond to a request from a Team Leader or Staff by attending on site or an alternative safe premise.

5.

Provide emotional support and empathic listening, including answering questions and providing information that will help to lessen the impact of the crisis for the victim.

6.

Provide practical assistance, which may include transportation.

7.

Assist the victim in identifying needs and supply appropriate options and referrals to services in the community. Only services\referrals supplied by the organization are to be suggested.

8.

Request additional support from the Team Leader\Volunteer Coordinator for complex assignments

9.

Report to the Team Leader any call which requires a duty to report under the Ontario Child and Family Services Act.

10.

Provide a verbal report of the call to the Team Leader on completion of the call.

11.

Participate in discussion of the call at the bi-monthly volunteer meeting.

12.

Provide relevant information to the Volunteer Coordinator.

13.

Complete a Volunteer Incident Report for each occurrence. Reports should be submitted in a sealed envelope, marked confidential, attention Victim Services - Volunteer Coordinator.

14.

Report any inappropriate volunteer or victim behaviour to the Volunteer Coordinator immediately.

15.

Report any victim complaints regarding volunteer assistance or program service to the Volunteer Coordinator.

16.

Review any written material presented.

17.

Volunteers should make every attempt to attend the 5 monthly meetings per year, unless otherwise prearranged with the Volunteer Coordinator.

18.

Complete and submit Volunteer Expense Reports to be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses, as approved and applicable.

19.

The Volunteer Coordinator may assign other duties deemed necessary.
