SUPPORTLINK - Wireless Phone Program |

SupportLink
is a
joint initiative of the Ministry of the Attorney General,
Rogers AT+T Wireless, and
Ericsson Canada.
The program
provides comprehensive
safety planning, follow-up telephone contact and where
appropriate, a wireless cell phone, preprogrammed to dial 9-1-1 in
an emergency
situation. |

SupportLink
wireless cell phones are issued to victims,
both female and male,
18 years of age and older, who are at high risk of personal danger
because of:

Domestic
Violence |
|

|
Sexual
Assault |
|

|
Criminal
Harassment/
Stalking |
C.C.A.R.E.S. Victim Assistance
delivers the
SupportLink program in the Counties of Lennox & Addington, Prince
Edward , and Hastings. The program is designed to provide victims of
domestic violence, sexual assault, harassment and stalking with:

Assistance
in developing a personal safety plan with a focus on: home, work,
traveling, court orders, communication, wireless phone. |
|

|
Training on
the use of the wireless phone unit and about maintaining charged
batteries. |
|

|
Information
about and referrals to other services for longer term assistance
and support |
|

|
Frequent
telephone follow up to ensure safety planning and information is
as current as possible |

|
ELIGIBILITY |
|

|
18 years
of age or older. |
|

|
Have
reported the situation to the local police service. |
|

|
Have
reasonable grounds to
believe that they are at risk. |
|

|
Not
residing with with the accused |
|

|
Using and
abiding by all protective orders or seeking protective orders. |
|

|
Willing
to work with and maintain contact with the SupportLink
Coordinator in preparing a personal safety plan. |
|

|
Do not
already have a cell phone. |
|

|
Understand
the limitations of the wireless phone. |

* Safety Planning is available to anyone who does
not meet the eligibility criteria.

Client Referral
|
|
 |
Referrals to the
SupportLink Program may be made through the community resource agencies such
as Victim Services, Shelters, Crown Attorneys, Police Services, Domestic
Violence/ Sexual Assault Response Program, Sexual Assault Centres, or other
agencies that assist individuals who are at risk of personal violence.
